Our Core Values Explained:

HMC’s Core Values are the elements of our church that are central to who we are as a Christian community in Hilton, South Africa. These are the values that guide the day-to-day life of our church which we believe will ultimately help us realise our vision of a church “alive in Christ, serving God with head, heart and hands.”

Christ-Centred

“I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and Christ crucified.” – 1 Corinthians 2:2

We desire to focus our entire lives and worship around Christ. Every decision we make, word we speak and action we take, should be aligned with Jesus’ life and ministry.

Household–Focused

“As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” – Joshua 24:15

We are a family church that aims to cater to the needs of the entire household. We understand that every family looks different and we desire to meet each household’s specific needs.

Responsive to the Living Word

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” – John 1:1

We believe that the Word of God is alive and transformative. This Word is revealed in the pages of our Holy Scriptures, the Christian Bible, but ultimately in the person of Jesus the Christ. We desire to be responsive to God’s Word.

Inclusive

“There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” – Galatians 3:28

We pride ourselves in being a welcoming and friendly community to ALL who would like to join. We desire to treat each person in our church with kindness, respect and love. No-one should feel excluded from worshipping or serving in our church because of their gender, race, age, profession, sexual-orientation or disability.

Living Sacrifices

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship.” – Romans 12:1

We desire to offer God our best worship and to honour God with excellence. We aim to use all of our resources to best serve God in this world. Although our worship begins in the church sanctuary on a Sunday, our worship should flow into every area of our lives and world, as we become living sacrifices for the sake of God’s Kingdom.

Transformed

“And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” – 2 Corinthians 3:18

We believe that the Holy Spirit transforms us to become like Christ as we follow him. We desire to help people become transformed, faithful disciples through the various ministries that we offer.

Integrated

“The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ.” – 1 Corinthians 12:12

We desire to provide a sacred space for everyone to feel comfortable and empowered to worship God and follow Jesus. We aim to be a diverse community that honours everyone’s unique gifts, but who remains united in our desire to follow Christ.

Authentic

“Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good.” – Romans 12:9

We desire to be a community of people who are authentic, vulnerable and honest with each other as we follow Christ together. We aim to create a space where people can bring their true selves to be a part of a larger church family. Authentic community can help us to comfort and challenge one another out of a place of genuine love and care.

Meeting Needs

“God has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year of favour to the Lord.” – Luke 4:18-19

We desire to partner with Jesus to bring God’s Kingdom to this earth by meeting the needs of those inside and outside of our church. We take seriously Jesus’ call to care for the most vulnerable members of society.
